Educator's Resources

On the Freedom Writers Foundation Website there are resources for teachers that Erin Gruwell has used in the past. I have found these extremely helpful in being a future educator and I will place links for each one available on the website.

Part of the Freedom Writers curriculum is that the students have journals that they write in to get the anger of everyday life out of them. This first link is to a student contract that the students sign at the beginning of the year.

The Freedom Writers Diary can have sensitive topics for students, there is also a link to a permission slip to send home to their parents.

The next link is for teacher tips and includes lesson plans as well. The Teacher tips are great, read over them and use them in your classroom. Ms. Gruwell was an inspiring teacher and not only knew how to handle a classroom of perceived to fail students, but make them succeed as well. Trust me she knows what she is talking about!

There is also writing prompts if you scroll down past the teacher tips as well as downloadable lesson plans that include the Line Game and Toast for Change. These lesson plans are available in the Teacher’s Guide book as well.

The next link is a site with the books that were used in Room 203 (Erin Gruwell’s room).

The last link on the Educator’s Resources page is a link to the books that have been written by the Freedom Writers Organization.
